The Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs held an educational session on fruit tree insects and disease control on May 18 in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Due to the recent structural adjustments made to the agricultural sector, the planting area of fruit trees has been scaled up, and it has become a pillar industry of the city that contributes to poverty alleviation and rural rejuvenation.
The session was divided into two parts. One dealt with on-site explorations of a kind of fly that eats immature fruit, including its biological features and how it can be prevented or reduced on yellow peach trees and plum trees through the use of new technologies.
The second part of the session instructed local farmers on how to resume agricultural activities after extreme weather events, and how to dispose of empty pesticide packs.
The session also invited senior agricultural experts to teach villagers to identify and prevent other commonplace fruit tree insects through talks, presentations, videos and pictures.
