Spring ploughing preparation starts in Gui'an

Rural areas of Gui'an New Area, Guiyang City, have been making preparations for the spring farming season and ensure a summer grain harvest.

At a working meeting held on Feb 20, the rural work leading group of the CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee made arrangements for spring ploughing preparations, agricultural material supplies, summer grain production, and abandoned land remediation for 2021.

As of Feb 18, Gui'an said it had a sufficient supply of agricultural materials for spring farming and reserved 1.802 million kilograms of hybrid rice seeds, 5.113 million kilograms of hybrid corn seeds, 812.06 tons of agricultural film, 322.479 tons of pesticides, and 29,500 tons of chemical fertilizers. 

In addition, the city's 56 agricultural machinery cooperatives and 120,000 units or sets of farming machinery have all been put into use, plowing 3,033.33 hectares of fields and 10,260 hectares of land, with the progress slightly faster than in the same period last year. 

The production of summer grains is progressing in an orderly manner, with planting 8,100 hectares of grains and 26,300 hectares of rapeseed completed.

In Qingzhen City, villagers in Youqi Village, Hongfenghu Town, are busy cleaning up weeds and preparing for the planting of 3.33 hectares of fast-growing leafy vegetables.

In Xifeng County, agricultural technicians and farmers worked on pruning and pressing, replenishing seedlings, clearing the orchards, and spraying lime sulphur among the red plum trees.

Experts with the fruit tree institute of the Guiyang Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences helped with plum tree pruning and shaping, garden cleaning and fertilization, and spring pest control in villages of Xifeng County.

The authorities will strengthen grain production supervision and make increasing efforts in spring plowing preparation and spring field management, law enforcement and supervision of agricultural materials, disaster prevention and reduction, and placement of grain insurance to achieve the planting goal of summer grain, said an official at the Guiyang Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural.
