Guiyang Vegetable Basket Group Co, a subsidiary of State-owned Guiyang Agricultural Investment Group – based in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – recently made it onto the 2023 list of China's leading agricultural innovation bases with modern facilities.

The selection, announced on March 1, was conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Guiyang Vegetable Basket Group has constructed and operates agricultural bases with modern facilities in Nanmudu town, Fengsan town, Longgang town and Gaozhai township in Kaiyang county in Guiyang.

Currently, the bases have 966 greenhouses, with five supporting post-harvest processing centers and 21 sets of water and fertilizer irrigation systems.

The company has developed a vegetable planting model mainly focused on bell peppers, chili peppers, thin-skinned peppers, tomatoes and other high-value vegetables.

The bases currently produce about 17,000 metric tons of vegetables annually. In addition to meeting the vegetable supply needs of Guiyang, they also export to 16 markets outside the province – including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Chongqing.

That kind of performance generates significant cash flow and the output value of the bases in 2022 was 52.21 million yuan ($7.26 million).

"We boast intelligent mechanized agricultural machinery, have actively carried out experiments and demonstrations of new variety crop introductions and have constructed agricultural informatization systems," said a company spokesperson.

Moving forwards, plans are for the company to continue to boost its product output and quality to promote the development of modern agriculture in Guiyang and in the nearby Gui'an New Area.
