A total of 132 new energy buses were put into operation during an event in Guiyang on Feb 20.

The new energy buses are part of efforts to increase efficiency and comfort for residents while traveling as well as improve Guiyang's public transportation service level and environmental quality.

The buses are purely electricity-powered, and nearly 10 high-definition cameras are installed inside and outside the vehicle, monitoring the driver's behavior and helping to improve safety.

In order to make it easier for the elderly and disabled to travel, a platform can be lifted and placed directly on the ground, allowing those in wheelchairs to get on and off the bus with ease.

The new buses are more intelligent than traditional buses, while improving safety, and comfort, as well as making less noise.

"I take new energy buses every day. Guiyang's public transportation system is doing a better and better job at serving the people," said Zhang Zhiqi, a representative of the residents invited to participate in the event. "The new energy buses launched today not only save energy and reduce emissions, but also play a major role in improving the urban environment," Zhang added.

Zhou Kaimin, deputy general manager of Guiyang Bus Co, said that at present, new energy buses account for more than half of the total number of buses in the city, and the city expects all buses to be electric by 2025.

In addition, starting this year, Guiyang buses will invite the public to periodically make suggestions on how to improve public transportation.
