Guiyang Urban Development Investment Group was recognized for its contribution to the country's fight against COVID-19, at a meeting to honor the nation's epidemic role models, held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sept 8.

The Guiyang-based enterprise, based in Southwest China's Guizhou province, was tasked with building a designated hospital for COVID-19 patients on Jan 27, as the epidemic continued to spread at the start of the year.

Jiangjunshan Hospital adopted a similar design to the Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals in Wuhan in Central China's Hubei province, then the country's hardest-hit city.

In order to speed up construction, the company employed more than 30 pieces of large equipment, 40 transport vehicles and over 3,000 builders who worked 24 hours a day at the peak period.

It organized personnel to buy necessary supplies -- such as containers and a ventilation system -- in the eastern provinces of Jiangsu and Shandong at the time. Employees gave up their Spring Festival holiday and braved the high risk of infection to ensure progress.

The hospital has 415 beds and a floor space of about 32,000 square meters, including 13,000 sq m of living space and offices. The project's first phase was completed on Feb 15 and began to receive patients on Feb 19, after a construction period of less than 15 days. The second phase was also implemented at a cracking speed, with the facilities available for use on March 8.

When the last patient was discharged from hospital on March 16, Guizhou had officially cleared all its COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the company also ensured the disposal of medical waste in Guiyang and reported no cases in all the facilities under its management, including 26 residential communities covering 3.1 million sq m, 950,000 sq m of state-owned housing and a 150,000 sq m shopping mall and car park.
