The launch ceremony for the new Industrial Bank Gui'an New Area Data Center was held on Nov 28 in Gui'an New Area, located in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Costing 6.88 billion yuan ($951 million) and covering 266 mu (17.73 hectares), it will house 18,000 server cabinets, capable of supporting up to 200,000 servers.

The data center, located in Machang Industrial New Town, will be constructed in phases, with a total planned area of 261,000 square meters.

Once completed, it will become what is known as a mega-scale facility, with Phase I covering 165,000 sq m and Phase II spanning 96,000 sq m.

At the ceremony, Sun Xiongpeng, vice-president of Industrial Bank, lauded the project.

He highlighted its expected role in the bank's digital transformation strategy, emphasizing its significance in enhancing the institution's computing capacity across multiple data centers.

The center will be joined to the bank's existing facilities in Shanghai and Fuzhou, consolidating a nationwide network.

At the launch ceremony, contractors from China Construction First Group pledged high standards and timely deliveries, to ensure the center aligns with Industrial Bank's strategic goals of technological and digital advancements.

The project is seen as reinforcing Gui'an New Area's position as a leading hub for data centers in China, with the area boasting 23 large-scale facilities and ranking among the top in the country's computing power infrastructure. It's poised to accelerate digital economic growth in the region.
