Wudang Economic Development Zone in Guiyang City is rapidly advancing its healthcare and pharmaceutical industry.

It's doing so by focusing on the development of traditional Chinese medicine, chemical drug preparations and medical devices.

This strategy is being bolstered by the region's robust foundations in traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM.

Currently, the Wudang area is home to 40 health and pharmaceutical companies – spanning such fields as Chinese herbal farming, traditional medicine, health supplements, chemical drugs and medical consumables.

In the first half of the year, these companies generated combined industrial output value of 4.45 billion yuan ($634 million), accounting for 96.18 percent of the zone's total output.

The healthcare sector alone contributed 3.52 billion yuan – 79.09 percent of the region's industrial value.

With 32 years of development experience since the establishment of its first pharmaceutical company in 1992, the Wudang Economic Development Zone has become a focal point for both the healthcare and electronic information manufacturing industries in Guizhou province.

What's more, Wudang is moving to enhance its innovation capabilities, with local enterprises holding 149 drug licenses and 93 patents.

As the zone continues to develop its pharma capabilities, it's prioritizing intelligent and digital transformation to foster high-quality growth and to drive sustainable industry advancements.
