Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, central to Guizhou province's "Strengthening Provincial Capital" campaign, have achieved remarkable economic growth.
In 2023, Guiyang's GDP surged to 515.48 billion yuan ($72.91 billion), marking a 6 percent increase and outperforming national and provincial averages.
Meanwhile, Gui'an New Area experienced an extraordinary GDP growth of 24.1 percent, positioning it as China's fastest-growing national-level new area.
The campaign reinforces key sectors, including industry, urbanization, tourism, agriculture, and environmental protection.
In 2023, Guiyang's industrial output grew by 9.6 percent, the highest in six years, with industrial investment accounting for 27.4 percent of fixed asset investments. Tourism also flourished, with Guiyang receiving 1.47 billion visitors and generating 200 billion yuan in revenue, a 42.8 percent increase. The city was recognized as one of China's top 10 must-visit destinations in 2023.
Efforts to enhance urban living, such as the "15-Minute Living Circle" initiative, improved housing, education, and healthcare services. Rural reforms boosted agricultural efficiency, while green development initiatives made Guiyang a leader in ecological sustainability, with the green economy comprising 49 percent of the GDP.
Guiyang and Gui'an continue to attract talent and investment, solidifying their positions as engines of growth and innovation for Guizhou province's development. Both regions are propelling Guizhou toward a prosperous future through targeted reforms and comprehensive strategies.
