Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area – located in Southwest China's Guizhou province – have steadily advanced rural vitalization, building on the success of key projects.

With the focus on their "Beautiful Countryside" initiative and the provincial development strategy, they've bolstered agriculture to drive economic growth.

In the first half of 2024, Guiyang's total agricultural output hit 14.26 billion yuan ($2.02 billion) – an increase of 4 percent – while the disposable incomes of rural residents gained 7.1 percent, further enhancing livelihoods.

Overall, Guiyang's overall success in rural development has been attributed to its agricultural innovation.

At Guizhou Zhunong High-tech Seed Industry Co's demonstration base in Qingzhen city, new rice varieties – like the Zhuyou 110 variety – are showing excellent resistance to disease and a high yield potential, with an expected harvest of 800 kilograms per mu (0.067 hectares).

These varieties, developed through advanced genetic technology, are now cultivated across 3 million mu nationwide.

Additionally, Guiyang's "Six-Mode" corn seed production base in Wangba village has advanced corn breeding – reducing dependency on external seed sources. The mechanized, standardized base has achieved high yields, further supporting local agriculture.

With continuing innovations and supportive policies, Guiyang's seed industry has expanded from 300 mu to 13,000 mu, boosting rural development and ensuring food security.

As a result, it's now widely said that the future of agriculture in Guiyang looks promising as it continues to thrive.
