Since the 18th National Congress, Guiyang city and Gui'an New Area have undertaken 287 national and provincial reform pilot projects, completing 252 or 87.8 percent of them and making progress in 35 or 12.2 percent of them.
The reforms are said to have driven rapid economic and social development forwards. In 2023, Guiyang and Gui'an's economy reached 527.8 billion yuan ($72.73 billion), growing 6.2 percent compared with the previous year.
To strengthen the industrial sector, the region saw a 9.6 percent year-on-year increase in the value-added output of large-scale industries, which was the highest rise in six years. Industrial investment accounted for 27.4 percent of total fixed asset investment.
Agricultural reforms included comprehensive rural development and boosting collective economic income. These efforts eliminated villages with less than 50,000 yuan in collective income and significantly increased the per-mu yields of various categories of farmland.
What's more, tourism reforms are said to have enhanced the "Cool Guiyang" city brand and revitalized underutilized tourism projects.
The region hosted 147 million tourists in 2023, with overnight visitors exceeding 31 million, generating nearly 200 billion yuan in tourism revenue, a 42.8 percent increase on 2022.
Environmental reforms included initiatives for sustainable economic growth, garbage classifications and ecological product value realization.
In 2023, the green economy contributed 49 percent to total GDP, while the energy consumption per unit of GDP decreased by 2.8 percent and the region traded its first forest carbon credits.
