Guiyang leads the way in high-quality development

In 2023, Guiyang emerged as a frontrunner in high-quality development, with significant achievements across various sectors. The region's gross domestic product reached 515.48 billion yuan ($71.26 billion), a 6-percent year-on-year increase. The economic output of Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area reached 527.8 billion yuan, marking a 6.2-percent growth.

Industrial growth has been pivotal to this leap in GPD, with Guiyang prioritizing new industrialization as its primary driver. This has resulted in a 9.6-percent year-on-year increase in the value-added of its large-scale industries, highlighting industry's role in driving the economy.

The city's optimization efforts regarding its industrial layout have been continuous, with seven major industries accelerating aggregation and chain development, leading to a 10.5-percent increase in total output value. Additionally, major projects such as CATL and Chery commenced operations last year, and strategic emerging industries now contribute 32.7 percent to the total value of large-scale industries in the city.

Huawei Cloud, China Telecom, and other smart computing centers have been established, along with the development of the Huawei Pangu Ecological System and the inauguration of the National Big Data (Guizhou) Comprehensive Experimental Zone's AI training ground, all of which contribute to the city's transformation into a smart computing hub.

The city's tourism sector is also seeing rapid recovery, with 147 million visitors received throughout 2023, with an average spending of 1,325 yuan per visitor, and overnight visitors exceeding 31 million people.

Innovation in science and technology has also made significant strides over the last year, with the approval of one national key laboratory and two national-level science and technology enterprise incubators.
