Guiyang promotes green transformation of economy, society

As the new year begins, tree planting and greening efforts in Guiyang city, Guizhou province, are in full swing.

On Feb 18, all the districts, counties, and development zones in Guiyang carried out voluntary tree planting activities, steadfastly advancing the city's ecological urbanization strategy.

In 2023, Guanshanhu district constructed 12 new and upgraded pocket parks and completed construction on 24 kilometers of urban greenway demonstration sections. The district is maintaining its stable forest coverage rate of over 45 percent.

In recent years, Kaiyang county has focused on promoting three major projects: ecological afforestation, ecological management, and ecological prosperity. Through these projects, it has accelerated both low-carbon development and high-quality growth.

By the end of 2023, the county had completed 425.4 mu (28.36 hectares) of afforestation tasks, and nurtured 2,603 mu of forests. The county's total forest area that is used for economic purposes has reached 289,800 mu, with labor subsidies totaling 10.35 million yuan ($1.44 million).

Currently, Kaiyang county has achieved a forest coverage rate of 57.25 percent, ranking at the forefront of the province in terms of ecological construction, protection, and development.
