Guiyang, Guian promote high-tech innovation over past decade

R&D investment in Guiyang has increased from 2.29 billion yuan ($316.76 million) in 2012 to 7.41 billion yuan in 2020.

In recent years, with the help of science and technology, emerging industries represented by big data and advanced manufacturing industries in the city have developed rapidly.

Guiyang has been approved as an "Innovation China" pilot city, big data industrial technology innovation pilot zone, demonstration city of national small and micro-sized enterprise entrepreneurship and innovation bases, and national pilot city to promote the integration of science and technology and finance.

Since 2012, more than 700 innovation platforms have been built in Guiyang, including various laboratories, research centers, incubators, maker spaces, and demonstration bases. The number of high-tech enterprises has also increased from 218 in 2012 to 1,234 in 2021.

All kinds of innovation subjects and scientific research institutions in the city are engaged in innovation. The number of technology contract recognition and registration has increased from 127 in 2012 to 2,998 in 2021, and the turnover has also increased from 116 million yuan to 12.98 billion yuan.

Since 2012, Guiyang has introduced and trained talent by issuing supportive policies, building academician workstations, and holding innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. R&D personnel grew by a whopping 85 percent.
