Updated: 2019-10-01

Xiong Qiquan, deputy head of the foundation department of the National Development and Reform Commission, led a delegation to research the rectification of environmental problems in the Yangtze River economic belt from Sept 27 to 28 in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Nine problems were identified, including the overflow discharge of the Xinzhuang sewage treatment plant, the farm enclosure pollution of Yang Wanfa farm in Xiuwen county, the pollution of phosphogypsum percolate of Guizhou Kailin (group) Co and the pollution of the Yangshui River in Kaiyang county.

A plan to rectify those problems and the next work plan have been put forward by local authorities.

Xiong urged the city to follow a green path to promote ecological restoration and protection of the Yangtze River economic belt, adding that rectification efforts should be intensified and the rectification plan should be formulated scientifically.

"We should clarify the rectification task and work target, as well as responsibilities and time limits," he noted.

He went on to say that local government should accelerate progress in rectifying the pollution in the Nanming River caused by overflow sewage from the intercepting ditch of the Xinzhuang sewage treatment plant.
