Planting fast-growing vegetables is leading the rural economic development in Baiyun district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Since the beginning of this year, based on its location and market advantages, Baiyun has focused on the development of fast-growing vegetables that have a short growth cycle in Niuchang township, Shawen town, and Maijia township.

The vegetables planted include shallots, cabbage, and sassafras.

The move has improved land utilization and generated extra income for local residents.

It is understood that as of November, Baiyun's vegetable output stands at 69,300 metric tons just for 2022. This is an output value of 335 million yuan ($47.79 million), which means Baiyun has soared far above its original target of 230 million yuan this year by more than 45.65 percent.
