Great efforts have been made by Baiyun district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province to improve people's livelihood.
Statistics from Baiyun district's finance bureau show that since the beginning of this year, Baiyun has allocated a total of 98.43 million yuan ($14.04 million) for social assistance funds.
Of the total amount, 13.99 million yuan was put into assistance funds for the urban and rural people in need, 6.74 million yuan was put into assistance funds for people with disabilities, and 13.61 million yuan was put into urban and rural medical assistance funds.
In addition, another 9.08 million yuan was used for retirement special care, 44 million yuan was used for the care of the elderly people, and 21.86 million yuan was used for students in need.
