Baiyun district and Guizhou University in Southwest China's Guizhou province have established a long-term cooperation mechanism to monitor forest resources since 2021.

The two sides established a long-term field monitoring base for masson pines in the State-owned Duxi Forest Farm in the jurisdiction of Baiyun district.

The masson pine, as one of the main tree species selected for artificial afforestation in Guizhou province, is an important forest resource for the provincial capital city, Guiyang.

In Baiyun district alone, the area of forest with masson pines as the dominant tree species reaches 2,769.05 hectares.

The monitoring data and results are used by Guizhou University, the Guizhou Provincial Forest Resources Monitoring Center, and the Key Laboratory for Plateau and Mountain Tree Cultivation in Guizhou Province, for related scientific research on carbon storage and nutrient turnover in the masson pine forest ecosystems.

It aims to provide a basis for scientific research and to improve the management of masson pines. It will also improve forest quality and benefit ecological assessments.

At present, the monitoring base has been awarded the title of "Masson Pine National Long-term Scientific Research Base" by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. It also has applied for the Key National Laboratory Open Fund Project, along with another two key provincial scientific research projects, which will lay the foundation for subsequent research.
