Baiyun on path to rural revitalization

Baiyun district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is taking action to advance rural revitalization and boost the high-quality development of agricultural modernization.

Its continuous efforts in recent years have finally delivered results.

As one of 30 districts and counties in Guizhou province focusing on the planting of edible mushrooms, Baiyun district has now established 21 edible mushroom bases.

Since 2016, Baiyun has planted 176.90 million sticks of mushrooms, with an output of 8,6668 metric tons worth 1.02 billion yuan ($153.04 million).

Meanwhile, Baiyun has established a "platform company + private enterprise" market-oriented operation model, which builds the Penglai Fairy World into a place that deeply integrates mushroom cultivation, intensive processing, leisure and vacation, tourism, and science education.

To guarantee a vegetable and fruit supply, Baiyun has planted a total of 248,700 mu (16,580 hectares) of vegetables with an output of 352,200 tons and an output value of 1.10 billion yuan from 2016 to 2020.

Fruit produced in Baiyun mainly includes plums, kiwis, cherries, bayberries, and sweet persimmons. A total of 13 orchards have been built, providing fruit-picking service items for tourists.

Meanwhile, Baiyun has established a long-term mechanism for the dynamic monitoring of people lifted out of poverty, and has no students dropping out of school during the compulsory education stage.

Clinics and village doctors are fully covered in Baiyun's 56 administrative villages, the basic medical insurance participation rate of urban and rural residents in Baiyun has reached 99.94 percent, and all rural families have safe housing.

Additionally, since 2016, Baiyun has invested a total of 12.81 million yuan to build 6,480 mu of high-standard farmland, 16.82 kilometers of mechanical farming roads, two high-level water ponds with a total area of 503.21 cubic meters, a new intake reservoir of 50 cubic meters, a new flood drainage ditch of 1,193 meters, and 11,720 meters of irrigation pipes.

A total investment of about 9.05 million yuan has been used to increase the effective irrigation area of farmland by 2,970 mu and increase the irrigation area by 5,689 mu.

A total of eight sewage treatment plants have been completed and begun operating in Baiyun district, with a daily treatment capacity of 150,000 tons.
