Baiyun's Shilong village honored for rural tourism

Shilong village in Niuchang township of Baiyun district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was listed among key rural tourism villages in Guiyang, according to a recent announcement by the Guiyang Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Guiyang Development and Reform Commission. A total of 21 villages made the list.

Located in the northern suburbs of Guiyang and the northeastern part of Baiyun district, Shilong village is 30 kilometers from the downtown area, with an average elevation of 1,460 meters. It has 198 households with more than 800 people, 92 percent of whom are from the Bouyei, Miao or other ethnic groups.

Utilizing the natural environment, red culture and ethnic culture resources, the village has developed a new path of rural revitalization featuring ecological tourism and poverty alleviation.

Since July 2020, Shilong village has taken the village collective stock economic cooperative as the main operating body, and more than 100 Party activities, trade union activities, company activities and study activities have been held there, receiving more than 20,000 visitors, according to a village official.

With a forest coverage rate of 68 percent, the village boasts a rich diversity of species and rare plants and birds, added the official.

It has successively won the titles of "National Forest Village," "Provincial Ecological Village," "Municipal Beautiful Village Demonstration Site" and "Civilized Village of Baiyun District."

Embracing more honors, the village will accelerate rural tourism development, consolidate and expand its poverty alleviation achievements and promote rural revitalization.
