To continue the diversified development of mushroom industry chains, Baiyun in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has established 21 mushroom cultivation bases, according to an announcement from the Baiyun district bureau of agriculture and rural affairs on Aug 31.

Baiyun has launched a range of favorable policies and development schemes in 2020. Centered on the only provincial mushroom-oriented industrial park and cultivation bases in local villages and towns, Baiyun has provided 10.56 million yuan ($1.54 million) in fiscal subsidies for mushroom projects between 2019 and 2020.

Baiyun vies to cultivate superior edible fungi through the concerted efforts of the Guizhou Institute of Biology and Guizhou Gaoshan Baiyi Fungi Co. At present, 9,000 fungi strains have been developed, while 200 types of fungi have been collected. Also, two mushroom-stick production bases are now operational.

Concerning the local development patterns, 21 edible mushroom bases, covering Gaopo, Sifangpo, Mengtai and Xiaoshan, have coordinated with enterprises, cooperatives and mushroom growers to produce 23.52 million sticks of fungi annually, weighing 9,490 metric tons and worth 101 million yuan.

Local private enterprises have also added their intelligence to expand the plantation areas and improve the yield of mushroom harvests.

Through the processing of fungi, Baiyun has achieved 20.64 million yuan of output value in the first half of this year.

Baiyun will continue to draw on the local resources of Penglai Fairyland – a 4A-level scenic spot – and relevant mushroom industries to seek further development in the near future.
