Poverty alleviation loans have been invested in the construction of a high-standard vegetable base in Baiyun district in Guiyang's Baiyun district, according to local officials.
A total of 1,327 million yuan ($189.3 million) was invested in the project, which covers an area of 16,667 hectares.
The project aims to provide consumers with healthy and fresh vegetables by setting up an entire vegetable industry chain, including seedling raising, planting, processing and logistics distribution.
The vegetable base is a joint project undertaken through the cooperation of companies, village committees and farmers. Officials said the model aims to increase farmers' incentive to participate in the project.
On completion of the project, the annual output of the vegetables in Guiyang will increase to more than 200,000 tons, officials said.
About 4,257 new job positions are expected be created and another 3,923 workers employed because of the project.
Officials said the project was of great importance to promote rural social and economic development.
