A bright pathway to the future is quite literally being illuminated in Baiyun district, in southwestern Guizhou province, following the installation of multifunctioning intelligent street lamps there, according to local officials.
The smart lamps, using the IoT technology and tested on Yunfeng Avenue, can help shine a light on various problems in the management of its public lighting system, officials added.
They said the lamps, connected to smart devices, have already improved the people's living environment in Baiyun district.
Compared with a conventional street light management system, the system can analyze data, so that malfunctions can be detected and reported to related departments.
Meanwhile, the brightness of the lamps can be adjusted, thus saving energy and extending the working life of the lamp.
To date, about 945 street lamps have been installed along Tongxin Road, Jinyuan Road, Baiyuannan Road and Tonghua road.
Conventional existing lamps have been upgraded with LED lights along the roads.
In addition, the intelligent lamps can be turned on or off through the management platform.
Officials said the platform, when a lamp switch is thrown, can check related information. As an added bonus, information about power consumption for the previous day is logged for later analysis.
Officials added that Baiyun district will further increase the use of smart devices, so as to improve the efficiency levels of its systems in the future.
