As the guest of honor of the 2019 International Alcoholic Beverage Expo, which was held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, from Sept 9-12, Italy was firmly in the limelight at a special event promoting its wine culture and global trade.

Starting on Sept 10, as part of the international wine expo, the China-Silk Road Guiyang Food and Wine Carnival-Italy Night was attended by many big names, including Italy's former prime minister Massimo D'Alema and Zhao Deming, Secretary of the CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee.

During the event, D'Alema said that China and Italy have strengthened their friendship under the Belt and Road Initiative, and expressed hope that both countries would take the expo as an opportunity to keep closer ties with each other, as well as deepen economic and trade cooperation.

In recent years, Guiyang has taken advantage of Guizhou's development into a national inland open economic pilot, expanded its opening-up channels, and accelerated its pace to construct an opening-up pattern in all directions, said Guiyang Mayor Chen Yan.

As a pivot city along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in West China, Guiyang has been dedicated to developing itself into an influential international metropolis featuring medium-high consumption trade and manufacturing, Chen added.

The night also witnessed the signing of a cooperation memorandum and a project agreement on West China's import and export commodities.

Participants of the event also included government officials, as well as wine manufacturers, sales people, suppliers, and enterprises representatives.
